Jesus loves each person--even someone who others consider unlovable. Matthew was one of those unlovable people. In fact, townspeople went so far as to call the hated tax collector a sinner. After all, he was known for his greed. Nothing bothered his conscience. So it was no wonder that the Pharisees were so bothered by the fact that Jesus ate dinner with Matthew! And what's more, he invited Matthew to become a disciple! Matthew was proof that Jesus can turn the worst of sinners into disciples! See for yourself in Matthew 9:9-12.
